About this dog

About two years ago, Bandit began sneaking onto our property at night to eat, earning the name “Bandit”—our little thief in the night. He was terrified of people but never aggressive, and for nearly a year we patiently worked to earn his trust. One day he arrived limping and bleeding, then disappeared for two weeks. When he returned exhausted and in severe pain, he finally allowed us close enough to help. A veterinarian discovered that Bandit had been shot and his front leg was broken and already healing incorrectly. Surgery was beyond our means, but the veterinarian assured us he could still live a happy, healthy life with a permanent limp. Bandit later completed heartworm treatment and made a full recovery. Today he often hops on three legs, but nothing slows him down. He is gentle, loving, and has come an incredibly long way.

About this dog

Bubbles is a neutered male who is almost four years old. Wyatt first brought him to our home to meet us and share a meal, and Bubbles quickly became part of the family. Despite his large, intimidating appearance, Bubbles is happy, bouncy, and full of personality—making his name a perfect fit. He does not always realize how big he is, so he can play a little rough, but he gets along well with both people and other dogs. Bubbles is probably the biggest baby we have here. Do not let his appearance fool you—he is a lovable, oversized goofball who will keep you smiling. According to his DNA results, Bubbles is 70% German Shepherd, 20% American Staffordshire Terrier, and 10% Belgian Malinois.

About this dog

Diesel was one of the first strays to arrive at our home and decide he was staying. He appeared shortly after Wyatt and, unlike many of the other dogs passing through, made himself comfortable in the yard and never left. Now approximately four years old, Diesel was still a young pup when he found us. Diesel is a neutered male and was our first dog to test positive for heartworms. His treatment lasted nearly a year and required extended kennel rest, which contributed to some weight gain. Despite everything he endured, he remains energetic and would benefit from regular walks and exercise. Diesel gets along well with smaller dogs. He can be cautious around unfamiliar people and may give a warning when he feels uncomfortable, so introductions should be slow and respectful. Once he realizes someone is safe, he relaxes and becomes a gentle, affectionate boy who loves attention and is eager to please. According to DNA My Dog, Diesel is 44% Australian Cattle Dog, 17% American Staffordshire Terrier, 15% American Pit Bull Terrier, 12% Perro de Presa Canario, and 12% another breed not listed in the results provided.

About this dog

Roscoe is a sweet, loving boy with a lot to say! This approximately three-year-old neutered male wandered onto our property looking for food and never left. We believe he may have come from a nearby development, but sadly, no one ever came forward to claim him. Roscoe gets along well with other dogs and children and does not seem to have a mean bone in his body. He loves playing outside when the weather is comfortable, but on hot Texas days, he will knock on the door when he is ready to come inside. Once the door opens, he races to his shared kennel and slides under his bed like he just hit a home run. Roscoe does struggle with allergies that affect his ears, but regular cleanser and ear drops help keep him comfortable. He is playful, gentle, and incredibly funny—and if you let him, he will happily talk your ear off. According to DNA My Dog, Roscoe is approximately 37% Akita, 17% Shiba Inu, 16% Australian Shepherd, 15% Siberian Husky, and 15% Alaskan Malamute.

About this dog

Willow was abandoned at a local gas station when she was just a thin, frightened puppy. After we gave her food, my daughter and I tried to leave because we already had many dogs at home. Willow stood behind our car, and after we carefully moved her, she chased us onto a busy and dangerous main road. We stopped and tried to guide her back to the store, but Willow planted herself in the road and refused to budge. She made sure we had no choice but to bring her home—and she clearly knew exactly what she was doing. Today Willow is a joyful, playful girl who loves toys, belly rubs, people, and children. Her nickname is “Wiggles” because her whole body wiggles when she walks. She is good with other dogs, although she sometimes likes to be the boss. Willow is happy, affectionate, and ready to share her enormous personality with a loving home.

About this dog

Luna came to Wyatt’s Hope as an owner surrender. She had a litter of puppies and was spayed afterward. Before coming into our care, she ran the neighborhood for several years. Luna is a sweetheart and became much healthier after Wyatt’s Hope took her in. She gets along well with others and does not show aggression. The only time she seems to get especially excited is when she is chasing delivery drivers. Luna has been adopted and now lives in Colorado. She will be deeply missed here at Wyatt’s Hope, but we are so happy that she found her forever home.

About this dog

Red is a spayed female who is approximately three years old. She and her brother, Rocky, came to Wyatt’s Hope as owner surrenders after spending nearly two years tied to trees and exposed to the Texas weather. While trying to escape the sun, Red caught her back on a lawnmower blade and suffered a severe open wound. She endured far more than any dog should, but her difficult past has not taken away her loving spirit. Red previously had a litter of puppies and is currently heartworm positive. She will begin treatment soon and will be ready for adoption once her medical care is complete. Red loves playing with other dogs and greeting anyone willing to give her attention. She is not aggressive, but because she had very little positive interaction with people, she is still learning manners and how to appropriately show her excitement. Red is now safe, loved, and finally receiving the care she deserves.

About this dog

Rocky is Red’s brother and is approximately three years old. Like Red, he was surrendered to Wyatt’s Hope after spending nearly two years tied to a tree and living outside through the heat, rain, and changing weather. Rocky is a gentle, sweet boy who is afraid of nearly everything. He is not aggressive—he is simply scared and unsure of people after everything he has experienced. With patience, love, and encouragement, he is slowly becoming more confident each day. Rocky loves playing with the other dogs and is beginning to understand that he is finally safe. He has not yet been neutered, and we are currently awaiting the results of his heartworm test. Rocky deserves the opportunity to experience the safe, loving life he was denied for so long.

About this dog

Shadow spent several weeks wandering through the neighborhood while we searched for his owner, but no one knew where he belonged. Sadly, he is one of several black-and-white Lab mixes who have been abandoned in our area. He wore a very thick wire collar and began following us everywhere, even chasing our vehicle through the neighborhood. That is how he earned the name Shadow. Because he was friendly from the beginning, we were able to safely remove the collar and bring him into our care. Shadow is an energetic, affectionate boy who loves being around people. He currently has allergies affecting his front legs and takes prescription allergy medication each day to keep him comfortable. Shadow has been adopted.

About this dog

Thumper is approximately 13 years old. One dark, rainy night around midnight, one of our dogs, DuKay, was standing in the street protecting him from passing cars. Without DuKay, we may never have known Thumper was out there. Once we brought him inside, we immediately realized he needed help. He was bleeding in several places, his skin was painfully raw, his backside was red and irritated, and his legs were severely bowed. We took him to the veterinarian, where he was checked for a microchip and began receiving the medical care he desperately needed. Thanks to DuKay, Thumper was given a second chance. He recovered, was officially adopted into the family, and is now safe, loved, and living the life he always deserved. This is Thumper.
