Wyatt's Hope Foundation helps abandoned, neglected, abused, and homeless animals by providing food, shelter, medical care, rehabilitation, and a chance to find safe, loving homes. The work began in a front yard outside city limits, where hungry dogs kept arriving and one tan Lab mix named Wyatt changed everything.

Wyatt's Hope Foundation was created in honor of Wyatt, a thin, fearful dog who came into our lives after being abandoned and left to survive on his own. Although Wyatt's time with us was not long enough, his story changed our hearts forever and inspired us to continue helping animals in need.
Wyatt's Hope Foundation is preparing to apply for recognition as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. That application has not yet been submitted.

The heart behind it
Wyatt taught us that trust can grow again.
When the family moved to Cleveland on October 27, 2021, they began seeing dogs roaming the neighborhood: malnourished, sick, scared, covered in fleas and ticks, and often injured. Their front yard slowly became a refuge for animals who had nowhere else to go.
Wyatt was their first stray; he was extremely malnourished. Thin, frightened, and unsure of people, he first watched from a distance and scavenged for scraps. Night after night, food was left for him. Over time, he learned to stand near the bowl, then accept touch, then enter a home where he finally knew safety. Wyatt left this world loved, and Wyatt's Hope continues the promise made in his honor.

Texas has a serious stray and abandonment problem. If you find a pet, your actions can help reunite them with their family or keep them safe while help is found.
Wyatt's Hope Foundation is a small, growing rescue. We care deeply, but space, funds, fosters, and emergency resources are limited.
Step 1
What to do if you find a stray
Stay calm. Do not chase the animal; move slowly and speak gently.
Check for a collar, tags, or visible ID information.
Offer water if it is safe to do so, especially during Texas heat.
Keep the animal away from your own pets until you know their health and behavior.
Take clear photos from the front, side, and any unique markings.
Write down the exact location, date, and time where the pet was found.
Microchip
How to check for a microchip
Most veterinary clinics, shelters, and some rescues can scan for a microchip.
Call ahead and ask if they can scan a found pet.
Scanning is usually quick and may help identify the owner.
If a chip is found, the clinic or shelter may help contact the microchip company.
Do not assume a pet was dumped because they look scared, dirty, or thin. They may be lost.
Post safely
How to safely post found pets
Post in local lost and found pet groups, neighborhood groups, and community pages.
Include the general area found, date, size, and basic description.
Keep one identifying detail private so a real owner can confirm it.
Ask anyone claiming the pet for proof, such as photos, vet records, or identifying details.
Use wording like: "Found dog near ___; owner must provide proof."
Never give a found animal to someone who cannot prove ownership.
Urgent help
When to contact animal control
If the animal is aggressive, injured, trapped, or in immediate danger.
If the animal has bitten someone or there is a safety concern.
If there are abandoned puppies, kittens, or animals without shelter.
If an animal is being neglected, abused, or left without food, water, or shelter.
If the pet is near traffic, extreme heat, flooding, or unsafe property.
If this is an emergency, contact local authorities, animal control, or an emergency veterinarian.
